is there a way to visually tell the difference between a b18c1 and a b 16 head, from the outside, possible by the numbers an letters stamped on it, ?

If you have access to an intake manifold, that would be the easiest and surest way to know. The stud pattern for the intake manifold is different between the heads, but not the exhuast, which is the same. There may be other differences but I'm not aware of them.

The GS-R head should be cast as a P72 unit, with the B16 being (I think, but don't quote me on it) a P30.

yeah i did some research an the gsr is p72 an the b16 is PR3 an so is the itr appearantly there,s a lot of questions about the stamp codes on the b16 and itr because they,re the same an if the paint is gone off the intake side of itr its real hard to tell the difference

The Type R used a massaged B16 head. The combustion chambers are slightly different among other minor details. The part # should actually be cast into the head, so I don't think the paint coming off should make it an issue.
Also, IIRC, the sure fire way to tell them apart is the combustion chamber. One of them has a more squared off CC edge and the other is round. Don't remember off the top of my head which was which, because I haven't seen one in awhile, but IIRC the GS-R head is the one with the slightly squared CC.
