Checked on saturday one honda dealership in Texas.
They have about 20 2008 accords infront of the entry to new cars department. All accords priced at MSRP + dest. charge.
But what made me mad, is dealer installed options.
-wheel locks $400.00( on e-store price with installation 71.80)
- splash guards $400.00 (e-store with installation 134.60)
-paint protection $600.00 ( who need that?)
-fabric protection $600.00 (car has leather seats, and they still charge for fabric protection)
-rear wing spoiler $1000.00 (another dealership quoted $600.00 with installation)
-windows tint 499.00 (same dealership advertised special windows tint for 249.00)
Finally, it was something else totaling price above MSRP to around $4000.00
I will never buy a car from this dealership

Technically they have the right to charge whatever they want, but I have to agree, that is definitely gouging.

They are definitely trying to take advantage of the new body style Accord. Our Honda dealership has yet to sell one, what with their 1000-1500 "market adjustment" they put on all of them from the get go. Good thing I work at the Acura store. Don't pay anything over the MSRP, tell them to stick the add ons up their can.

Ah yes, I think I know which one you are speaking of but won't name it in case it might offend someone.

Based on this saying, I know the exact dealer you are speaking of and it is my main competitor. One of the reasons they do this is to undercut everyone else in the metroplex on their internet quote. I have to deal with this all the time, I get replies to my pricing saying Dealer XXX is quoting me $1000 better than you are. It is a tough thing to overcome, almost have to let them go there first to see that, yes, they might quote you $1,000 better than me, but they will have $2,000 minimum more in the price of their accessories to make up for it, so I am already $1,000 better when you add that in. I went by on a sunday and snapped several pictures of their addendum sheet to add to my evidence manual.

I know which dealer it is, and Ive purchased a car there via internet quote. They made light of the absurdity of the pricing of the accessessories from the beginning so it wasnt much to overcome. In the end they have basically the same options installed as everyother dealer and will sell the car for a fair price.
Whatever method works best for them, there is enough info on the web - its hard to overpay for a car.
But, Im a guy who doesnt need to set a record for the greatest car deal in the history of the world everytime I buy a car. I understand they are in business for a profit.

I've seen the same thing at my local Hyundai dealer where I've driven a Tuscon, Sonata and Genesis Coupe. The have this insane $1295 tag added to every vehicle for a security 'option'- where they etch the VIN in all doors, glass, or some such nonsense... salesman tries to tell my how important this is in case my car is ever stolen. I tell him I've been driving for 35 years and never had a car stolen ever, why do I need this again? Funny thing is there is no way for them to remove this 'option' with it being etched onto body parts.
... biggest turn off for me to a dealer ever is markup past MSRP. I just see that and make up my mind to never do business with these type of dealers. I gladly test drive their cars all day long and then just take my business elsewhere when it's purchase time.
