Has anyone had any problems recording a DVD-A to the hard drive on a 2010 TL Tech? My CD's record OK but I have tried several DVD-A's and the Hard Drive doesn't recognize them. It doesn't make much sense to have a system designed for 5.1 DVD-A and not be able to record them to the hard drive. Especially since it's a single CD drive. Feedback please.
If I had to guess, it's because the digital format that the music is "ripped" as is not compatible with the 5.1 channel DVD Audio. For instance, it likely uses a MP3 or AAC wrapper, and those are not compatible wrappers for 5.1 channel music.
It doesn't "record" them like dubbing a cassette; rather, it converts them into another digital format that can be stored on a hard drive. Since a DVD-A is 4.7 GB and I believe the hard drive is only approximately 10 GB, it wouldn't hold very much in a non-compressed format.
The best thing to do would be to check your owner's manual for compatible discs to be stored. It likely says DVD-A cannot be ripped.
You are probably right based on size constraints. However, it seems shortsighted to put in a single CD for a system that is designed to play DVD-A that can't be recorded to the hard drive. Loading DVD-A's one at a time seems like a step backwards. A hard drive + a 6 CD changer would seem like a more logical configuration. I don't understand what Acura was thinking given the fact they have been promoting their wonderful ELS 5.1 system since 2004.

The owners manual does specify that HDD does not record DVD-A

I'm quite certain that it says this in your owner's manual. Only certain discs are recordable.
