The 8th gen Accord seats are thin partially because of cost cutting and partially because they were designed with the intent that most Americans have ample cushion built in.

The Accord seats are the worst ever! I sat on bleachers that were more comfortable. The leather seats are so bad, you can feel the springs or wires through the seat. I will probably take heat for stating this but thats OK. Would a little more padding on the seats plunge Honda into insolvency?
On a serious note . . . I have to say that the 7th gen seats are much more comfortable.
The 8th gen seats seem to have a shorter bottom cushion, they do feel stiffer (i.e. less padding), the bolsters don't grip well, and worst of all, the power lumbar support is *awful*. The 7th gen Shakura designed lumbar support was awesome - firmly supported my entire lower back. The 8th gen lumbar support literally feels like a softball wedged into the small of my back. Its a very concentrated, unnatural pressure point.
Any trips over a couple of hours cause my back to ache. :( With my 03 and 06 Accords, I could jump out of the car after the 10 hour NC -> PA drive and feel fine.
I haven't spent alot of time in the sedan, but I find the coupe's seats to be very comfortable. I am working on a project that has me commuting about 4 hours each day, and they are very comfortable for me. I can't speak to the physical amount of cushion specifically.
I find these seats to be the most comfortable seats I've ever owned. Tilt them back a little and the lumbar bolster fits like a glove. Seats are subjective just like road bike seats, one person's comfort might be another person's torture.
