Acura must have had YOU in mind with the NSX- offering only a tape deck player in the dash all the way through the 2005 model.

I just thought it funny that Honda was still putting tape decks in their cars, but wouldn't put auxiliary jacks in. ipod has been around for what 4 years now?

Well, the tape deck analogy is still there because we get as an upgrade a dead standard which is DVD-Audio. Its 2008 – 99.9% of people never used and have no clue what DVD-Audio is. Stop offering something that has been dead almost from the get go. Why can’t we get something like RDS or HD radio instead? Both much useful and more appealing. Is throwing DVD-A another ADVANCMENT on Honda part????

this is sad but true... it is a dead format... i had an amazingly hard time tracking down dvd-a's in 2004 for for my tl... i havent seen any new dvd-a releases since early 06...
which is a shame because they sounded spectuclar and it actualy made me 'purchase' music...

So if it is dead why do you see other car manufacturers still adding DVD audio after acura introduced it? So do you think your HD radio is going to sound nearly as good. Tell me this, why would you put a x.1 surround system in a vehicle if you don't have a format that is recorded in it and can take full advantage of the systems capabilities? Would you want a x.1 surround system in a car to hear your two channel ripped songs on your ipod?

once again if it is dead why have the majority of premium vehicle manufacturers introduced it after acura
and what other native format can be played and decoded on the system to give you x.1 surround sound

you would have to ask them that, i'm just stating the facts.
my guesses would be to impress the consumer; because they dont want to be one upped- so if one company is offering it, the other does not want to be out done; because consumers recognize 5.1/7.1 etc from their home theater systems.
no doubt these systems will sound phenomenal playing back from standard sources; but to get the true "surround sound" experience and discrete channel seperation you will need a dvd-a disc... many of which were remasterd to utilize the channel separation of 5.1
dvd-a can play dts and dvd-a discs. there are programs available to rip the dvd audio tracks off of dvd disks (to play a concert dvd in your car for example) but it takes a bit of time and work.

some options are still made but the fact is many standards are just dead - just few of them
DVD-A
DTS5.1 CD's
SACD
latest addition - HD-DVD.
- of course tape decks and vhs tapes
and if you think otherwise, just ask yourself when you bough this media last time and how often do you use it vs other media?

The problem is that these things come out so often, the thought was that DVD audio is something that can be burned at home. Actually it does not show this but i was told that there is Hard Drive storage in the XM package and that the TL will have a hard drive Navi and Hard drive storage in the audio system

Actually I burn my own DVD audio disk all the time from the above mentioned and also concert DVD's such as the MTV uplugged DVD and MTV HD, etc. There is more than enough software out there to do it, and if you look at acurazine.com there is quite a large following that does so.
In following I have to ask you to answer the previous question, if you are not in the market, or would not consider the Tech option, or are not a current owner why do you care? Also if you are an owner why would you be satisfied playing two channel audio when you don't have to?

Are you able to burn a DVD-ROM LOADED with MP3's and play it in this Acura DVD-A deck? That would be pretty sweet advantage over the 700mb that cd-rom gives you. It's almost like putting an ipod equivalent in every disk!

yes you can, but why would you? going back to one of my original points, why would you want to listen to poor quality audio an not take advantage of what the system gives you.

Most of the music I listen to is not available in DVD-A format. So it's actually important to me that I would be able to cram almost 5 gigs of MP3's. What would be even greater would be if it supported DVD-DL. Almost 9 gigs of music per disc would be insane .

What on God's Earth is the point of doing that?

So? I'd rather carry a few songs with fantastic audio quality (24/96) than a ton of crappy sounding music.
At home I've just built an XP NAS with a 2TB RAID-5 (three 1TB HDs) I have reached the limit of NTFS partitions. It also has another 1.2TB of USB-2 external drives. Total = 3.2TB ).
So now I'm building another 2TB RAID5 for the Samba in the Linux box.
Running total 5.2TB.
Distributed along the machines at home (10) are another 2TB or so.
Running total 7.2TB.
Next year will be to add an external 4 TB (5 1TB HDs RAID 5) and make that into two partitions.
Then it'll be 11.2 TB.
Storage is cheap. Maybe now I can build me a portable 1TB audio machine that can play 24/96. ;-)
Real men measure in TB not GB. ;-)
