For 2008 Honda will apparently be adding leather to the Civic ala Acura CSX.
The coupe will have add an EX-L and an EX-L Navi. It will remove the EX Navi. The coupe will have both navi with an without leather.
The real question to me is will they drop in the 155 HP 2.0 liter from the Acura CSX into the car, probably in EX models and above. That would just be kick.
Looks like other Civic models won't change much and looks like the colors did not change either.
This is going to be a good addition. I beleive it is needed especially with the competition offering leather. Lets hope this also means auto climate control (something that was left out of the CRV). I was thinking too about how this fits in Honda's total car lineup. Below is a summary with rounded numbers:
MSRP
Civic EXL 21,900 est
Accord EXL 25,700
Accd EXL V6 28,000
TSX 29,000
TL 34,300
TL-S 38,800
RL 46,500
I think for Honda to sell as many civics as they want they need to move the accord northwards as far as price and features are concerned becasue the reality is that you can buy an EXL accord for a much steeper discount than the civic resulting in probably only a 1K difference in price. Most people given that situation would tip towards the accord. With that being said who knows what the new accord will actually sell for but given the fact they want to be #1 again with the accord they are going to have to be agressive against the camry and altima. I suspect within 6mos you will be able to buy a new 08 accord for 500 over invoice.

No.
Maybe with the next FMC in 2011, but not bloody likely.
I doubt they'd cannibalize Si sales to drop the bigger motor in the EX, especially given how well-received the latest Si was in relation to the previous generation.
Not only that, but the current EX is not much cheaper than the Si as it is. A bigger engine would only push it closer to the Si in cost, probably decreasing sales of the traditionally best-selling model in favor of the lesser models.
Agreed with all of the above in some way shape or form. But given the growing trend in the EX gaining alot of Fat with all the goodies might there be an added kick to the power maybe 155 and 133 would seem like a good up to take the weight and keep it close to the striped down LX and DX models. Granted if your getting the EX theres a good chance redline dosnt get hit very often.
There plunty of room to bore out the R18A to get 160 out of it. Its almost to the T the same block in the CRV just the CRV has the extra steel and a balancer shaft.
The 08 Mugan am I mistaken or isnt there alreay an aero kit from honda that looks close if not the same to that setup. There was a Red SI in Vegas that looked exactly the same with the anoying over the top type wing.
I hope their's some way you can retrofit the leather seats into 2006/2007 Civics. This is the one option I really wanted that wasn't offered. I wonder if they'll offer blue leather (for the hybrid?)

leather will not only be for the seats, also for the door panels and the center console.
ohh and also.. I sort of like the idea of leather... I mean, the interior on the new civics seems to be the type scratches and dirties easily.... and makes it look like its aging very soon when its really not... anyone agree?
my si's seats seem to be fading in color and they're really not, they simply need to be vacumed very well, and when I detail my car inch by inch, a few days later, it looks a mess again.... I hate that.!!!!
How credible is the info on HondaPreview.com? I think the leather option is pure speculation on their part, since Honda has released no official word on the 2008 Civic.
The website also says there will be a diesel option in the MMC for the 2009 Civic? I dunno... I would think Honda is more likely to add a diesel option for the 2008 Accord (which isn't happening), since it's the flagship model and it's going through a FMC. Also, I would assume there would be other minor changes for the Civic's MMC (such as headlight/taillight housings) but they don't list anything of the sort.
Just thinking out loud: there may be a slight chance that they will bring the Euro 2.2L i-CTDi diesel engine into USDM Civics, but I feel it's highly improbable. It doesn't have more horsepower, just [lots] more torque and better gas mileage... and American consumers are not particularly enthusiastic about diesel in the first place. A leather, 140hp-diesel Civic EX with navigation will probably MSRP at $21k+, which infringes on Civic Si and Accord territory. The cost of retrofitting the assembly line to install diesel engines will probably outweigh the profit potential.
But if it happens, the Civic will come in five flavors: hybrid, natural gas, diesel, economy gasoline and performance gasoline engines. Pretty versatile! Anyone know if any other manufacturer does so many things with a single model? I'm just curious.

Boooo, Hisssss! Ever been tossed half way out of the seat in a RSX-S in a violent turn? I love the fabric in the Si.
Yes, but the fabric seems to have some real wear problems. I'm careful and the fabric in my 07 is already starting to show wear. That's disappointing considering the fabric seats in my 12 year old G20 still look like new. Honda used some very, very cheap materials on the Si.
I was hoping for VSA to be standard on all the models since they added VSA on the Si's for MY07. Also, they should make mirror mounted turn signals and LED taillights standard on the MMC.
For the MY09 MMC they should add a VP model with AC and Radio/CD player and alloy wheels.
The DX should keep the 15" wheels, the LX and Hybrids/Diesels should get 16" wheels, the EX and EX-L should get 17" wheels, and the Si should get 18" wheels.
I hope they put A-Vtec on the Civic and not wait til the next generation. An A-Vtec R18 w/ some other mods should get 150hp and an A-Vtec R20 should get 165hp while an A-Vtec K20 for the Si with some more agressive performance mods should get 225hp like the JDM CTR.
There should just be an "L" package that could be added to the Hybrid/Diesel, Si, and EX. It should incude heated seats, leather upholstery, Automatic Climate Control, 8way pwr Driver's seat, and heated power mirrors for about $2,000.
The new SAE revised ratings not with standing, the Accord gained 10hp for its MMC. It wouldn't be far fetched for the Civic to get a boost. Maybe not the EL's power plant but a boost of some sort.

What about the millions they spent making the new 1.8 liter. Its an amazing engine and is superior to the 2.0 in the csx IMO.
I think Honda made the engine for more then 1 year of use. Lets say 5 to 10 years of use, with revisions after 5 years.
There's also another problem. In Canada, a news article posted in the Toronto Star says that the fuel economy will be tweaked on the Fit and base manual civic coupe/sedan to meet the dumb 6.5 litres/100km requirement in order to qualify for fuel efficient rebates (Currently the Fit achieves 6.6 -wtf- km/100 litres, and the Civic a bit more). Because of the fuel efficiency rebates, the Toyota Yaris has been selling through the roof while the Honda Fit and Civic remained steady in growth. Honda got so pissed at our government they actually offered a reduction on the Honda Fit price of $1000 to match it to the government rebate... very rebellious (Makes me proud to be a Honda fan). Since then Honda Fit sales have shot up 30% in Canada.
In any case, they are considering tweaking the cars in some fashion to achieve 6.5 litres/100 km. For the Fit, it's pretty simple since it's almost there; but Honda Canada mentioned that mods to the Civic will be more extensive and will take more time. I'm that if they modify the Canadian Civic's fuel economy, that change will trickle to the US (actually, it's almost inevitable since we export a billion of those cars down south). I'm not sure what those mods are but they're most likely going to be a slight engine ECU tweak or a gearing change on the manual transmission.
