Hi all, I have a 2002 RSX-S. During my last oil change I switched to Mobil 1 5w30 pure synthetic. My question is, after the change, I no longer get the surge of power between 6000 & 7000 RPM's . The car is much smother and it seems to pull better. I'm kind of a novice on this stuff. I was wondering why the synthetic would make it smoother.

From the articles I read, synthetic oil is much slicker. Mobil 1 is PAO (polyalphaolefin) based (100% synthetic) and it's supposed to be a much better lubricant than mineral based oils. I was told to stay away from Castrol Syntec (and most mass marketed brands) as it may say "synthetic" but it's actually not synthetic cause they use group III base (hydrocracked petroleum base), which is just highly refined mineral base. I'm definitely not an expert, but like you, I was curious about this and did some research.

If you seem to get better performance from this, that's great. Some people say they feel a difference and some say they don't notice any changes.
