ReWiring 05 TL Fog Lights    (Score: 1, Normal) 04-21-2005 11:15

I want my fog lights to come on by themselves (without the lowbeams) and wanted to get some advice on having the eletrical rewired to do this. I have a custom auto place that said that they can do this for me but I'm worried about it voiding my extended warranty. Has anyone tried to do this?? Is it a big deal (labor intensive) to have this done? I just bought my first Acura Product and love it - just want to make some minor changes. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! You can also email me at salgiaco@sbcglobal.net
Thank you for hearing me out.

My advise is NOT to tweak the electrial system, no matter how minor, while your car is under warranty. Look on the bright side, you can use those really fulgent HID lamps in twlight or daytime conditions as DRL's.

That was my plan - to use the foglights only sort of like DRL - I think the Canadian Models are built that way because the manual says Canadian cars have DRL - the question is where are they located (I was thinking the Candian TL model uses the fog lights as DRL). If that's the case, rewiring the American TL shouldn't be that much of an issue. What do you think?

I am wondering the same thing that you are. I read the same information in the owners manual about DRL's in Canada. As you are aware, in Canada and many other countries car manufactures are required by law to have DRL's as standard equipment. It is probably a lot less expensive for Honda/Acura to keep the same headlight design for the US. Unfortunately instead of using these lights as DRL's they call them "fog lights", give me a break. As far as I'm concerned the fog light use in the US is pretty lame. Not being able to use them without the headlights on is a pain. HID's are very expensive to replace. There must be a jumper or something that can be done to turn them into DRL's. Please let me know if you have heard any new information on this? I was also wondering if you have any advise on when I should do my first oil change? Also if you have any advise on whether or not I should use regular, semi-synthetic or fully synthetic motor oil?
