isn't it abnormal to raise prices in the middle of a model year?

I think the prices were already increased from the start. I noticed from the beginning of the 2005 MY that the accord prices were slightly higher.

--i think the price increase at the start of the accord '05 model year was probably due to the addition of standard side and curtain airbags accross the accord line... and i think the lx gained steering wheel mounted audio controls..

it does seem to be strange to increase prices in the middle of the model year, to me. --is it just me, or does it seem that honda's msrp prices are already bloated in comparison to the competion?

Hey, Honda isn't a charity. It's a public company and part of its duty is to make as much profit as possible.

To that end, it should charge as much for its products as the market will bear.
Continuous record sales in the face of industry's lowest discounts show that customers are willing to pay for Honda's products.
Maybe they're greedy and they want to push just a little bit more. I don't think average $100-200 increase will have much effect on the real selling price. Or in the decision of a customer to go with Honda or not.

If you look at the history with the big 3, they continuosly increase MSRP during the model year. It is unusual for Honda to do so, but based on the dramatic increases in steel prices it appears they felt it was necessary to recover the increased costs and not wait for the model year change. Unusual for Honda since they try to offset cost increases through internal productivity.
