I keep thinking that there is a hole in the market between the small wagons and the big vans. I live in a dense city and would not be wild about navigating a big van, so I drive a small wagon (Matrix).

The Element would seem to go into the hole, but it was probably a good idea that the differentiation was on more than size (funky style) because with regard to price and fuel economy, the distance to the big vans isn't that great. It is pretty amazing that the mileage ratings on the Ody are so close to the ratings on the Element, even though the Ody weighs almost thousand pounds more!

I think the fact that the big vans offer such great value, plus the "bigger is better" attitude that is typical in the US, might make it tough sledding for a mid-size van.

But for me personally, the Stream is still the dream.

I ran the fuel economy figures for our Odyssey and at right around 5000 miles the average is 20.2mpg. The peak mileage so far has been 26.2 and the minimum was 17.8mpg. The Element feels much sportier than the Odyssey, but it's nowhere near as comfortable on long trips. And the Odyssey is much quicker. The DVD-RES is worth its weight in gold, but I miss the Element's stereo - since we got an XM Roady II, I'd kill for that front mounted aux input jack now!
