After a degrading ride and fast tire wear on my last set I figured it was time to get a new suspension. I got a great deal on the HFP suspension (under$350 shipped). I installed it this weekend along with new Michelin pilot sport a/s, and new front pads-rotors.
The transformation is amazing, the car feels better and as tight as the day I bought it. After 5 years and 175k mi I still love driving this car, and it still feels great.

The only non routine maintenance items I have had to replace or fix in 5 years were the engine idler pulley and the driver side visor.
A few of the lights have gone dark on the hvac buttons, my navi joystick is non –responsive, and my oil consumption is now about 1qt per 1000 miles.
That’s it! (hopefully I don’t jinx myself)

You mentioned you replaced your idler pulley? Was it because it had a high frequency chirpy/mechanical metal on metal sound? My '07 si has that and I am trying to decide if they all do that or if I have a problem......

i was convinced it was a bad bearing by the sound it was making. more of a low hum/grinding if i recall, it was a while back.

i did a bunch of searching on the 8th gen forums for "bad wheel bearing" and "grinding sound" etc - quite a few people had the issue, and it turned out to be the idler pulley.

im glad i did, a pulley is a heck of a lot cheaper than having a wheel bearing replaced.

it took about 5-10 minutes to replace.

----

i got the part from rockauto for about $12.

I share the feeling. 2006 Si with 181,000 miles, HFP suspension a few months after I purchased the vehicle, the car drives better every mile. No issues at all. I've never had to change the water pump, I'm on my second clutch w 100,000 miles on it and it still grabs strong. My HFP exhaust died though so I went back to stock in that area, and an HFP rear damper leaked at 150000 miles so that's new. Great vehicle!!

I think about this a lot, how long my clutch will last. It still feels fine to me.

I fear it will be expensive when the time comes, as it is something i probably would not be able to do myself.

Are you still on your original clutch?

yes. original clutch. and original rear rotors!

Didn't have to change my front pads until 90k.

I've also never had an alignment. I was planning to now once the new suspension settles, but the car tracks so perfectly straight, I wonder if it's needed.

That's impressive. I changed my original clutch when I got the 3rd gear recall done at ~80k miles. My current front pads have 50,000 miles on them at the moment and still going. I wouldn't bother risking a good alignment it if it is tracking straight and the tires are wearing evenly.

Great car, no doubt! These cars are awesome!

I've got 48.5K miles on my '06 Si, so it's just a baby.

Wow, how do you only go 8k/yr - I do that in a few months sometimes.

Suspension was on ebay, but the seller also has a business website. It was new; it has the SI 2 door part number, but works on the 4 door fine.

Road Race, did you find out what was making the noise?
