What the hell can the Touring come with aside from a prostitute and a chef to differentiate itself from the already ridiculously well-appointed EX?

I'm going to guess HIDs and different wheels for sure.

Also, maybe memory driver's seat, cooled seats, autodim rear view mirror, and upgraded audio?

Give me a 4 cyl touring with NAVI and 6MT and the Accord is on my short list again.

My Gen7 6-6 combination is a tribute to performance AND economy. With the 9th Gen 4-cyl 6-6 coupe gaining circa 350 pounds..........................I'll gain a few mpg (especially city).

But I would miss that sub 6 flat 0-60.

It's all good (but again that 14.5 QM is even better)

The money still goes back to Japan, it has to be converted into Yen. While building vehicles on US soil helps the labor differential, it still can't help that 25K USD 10 years ago is now effectively worth 19K USD in Yen today. Don't forget that commodity prices are now higher as well.

This is why you're seeing a glorified Honda Civic, AKA ILX start at 26K instead of 22.5K. The glorified Accord, AKA TSX started at 26K 8 years ago. Its base price is sure to start above 30K now.

If the Accord LX standard features of alloy wheels, 8" LCD, dual zone climate are to be true, don't expect MSRP to be much below 25K. If they didn't include these features in prior generations with a relatively weaker Yen, they surely can't offer them now without raising the MSRP or lowering the quality.

I do not agree with what you are saying. The profits go to Honda, of course, but these cars are primarily being built with materials from North America, not Japan.

You seem to be getting a little preachy about this. Do you have an Economics background?

I think you have much to learn, we'll see in one month :)

Like I said in my example of the climate control, there are negligible costs from adding the standard content to the lower trim levels.

The entire purpose of higher end features would usually be to drive sales of the higher trim levels. However in the crowded midsize segment with alot of very credible competition, Honda knows they must approach these features differently. One key part of this segment is features for the money. Alot of people who buy in this segment will just buy the car with the most features for the price and do not care about much else.

The price of the Accord increases incrementially from year to year to accomodate for inflation, commodity costs, and currency differences. They don't sandbag the MSRP for 5 years and then all of a sudden give a 10-20% price increase for a FMC.

The current Accord LX starts at $21,480 MSRP with a manual transmission and the current Accord LX-P (which aligns better with the 2013 Accord Lx in feature content) starts at $23,280 with an automatic transmission. Honda typically charges $800 for the auto and since the 2013 Accord LX is still available with a manual I think we'll see a base price on the Accord LX manual right around the same price as LX-P automatic. In place of the automatic tranny and power driver's seat that is standard on the LX-P you'll have pandora, bluetooth, I-MID and other neat touches. The CURRENT Accord EX doesn't start at $25K itself, its 24,405 MSRP for the manual models. I expect a slight bump in pricing, but nothing that major. If a LX were to start at 25K, I can't imagine how much the Sport, EX and EX-L models will cost.

No word on push button start? I'm mad at that!!

Only one thing determines price - the market. Honda will aim to price the car at a level that ensures a certain number of sales. Which is largely dependent on the rest of the market. They cannot come up with a car that is significantly more expensive than the Camry and Altima. Especially as is doesnt have push button start..... :-)

Seeing what others have said, and my observations:

1. They should make XM , standard on more than the leather cars and off the add-on with a REAL antenna. And Homelink should be standard on more than the EXL-V6 and above. (At least there should be pre-wiring for it so you can plug-and-play the part like you could on the 7th-Gens--the 8th-Gens didn't, but College Hills Honda in Wooster, OH has a self-powered version that they jerry-rigged using a lithium battery from a normal garage-door clicker.)

2. They had memory seats on the EXL-V6s. I'm surprised that they appear to be removing that feature from that trim. (That's my minimum that I want, and I was hoping for the memory seats if I can't afford the jump to the Touring--I will fiddle with the seat for a solid week after taking my 2006 in for service and someone messes with it!

I assume that Honda didn't elaborate on the Touring features, nor word on release dates? When do you receive your last 2012 allocations?

It is effectively Yen as an accounting excercise. The parts are bought in USD, the cars are built and sold in USD, the labor is paid in USD, etc. There is no mystery as to why Honda has been big about expanding production in the markets they sell the product in (or exporting from more cost favorable markets such as the US).

One of the Accord's competitors is going to be the all-new 2012 Ford Fusion, which is arriving at dealers now, just as the new Accord is.

The Fusion is a sharp looking car, but the 2013 Accord is going to best it in several ways. First, the new Fusion has better mpg than the previous version, but it's not as big a jump as the Accord is going to get.

The 2013 Fusion base model with a 2.5 Duratec is rated of 22 mpg city, 34 mpg highway. Turns out the new Fusion is something of a porker by today's standards, with a weight of c. 3400 lbs.

I think the 2013 Accord is going to get more like 26/38. I think its weight will be closer to 3100 pounds.

A 35k price point would also render the TSX and even the Base TL overpriced cars, especially considering that the cheaper EX-L already has Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot System, and Forward Collision Warning.

Which would explain why the TSX is on the chopping block...
The TLX will have to raise the stakes...

What still baffles me, as has already been noted by Bachelorfrog is the ILX. There is little justification for this car....

Sure there is, the size. Not everyone wants or need something the size of an Accord. That's not to say the ILX doesn't need a little more work :)
