I have an issue the dealer could not diagnose, although they replaced a belt tensioner at my cost. There is a turbo-like whistle from the drivetrain that is especially noticeable in 4th gear when accelerating.
Anyone have the same noise?
Car has 33K miles.

Is the car stock?

check to see if there might be a turbocharger attached to your engine.
j/k. If it's something that's most noticeable in a particular gear it does seem like it might be transmission related, but gear whine generally doesn't sound much like a whistle from a turbo, so I'm not sure what else to suggest.

Yes, car is stock. Turbo would be nice though. I will be back at the dealer for a test drive with a technician.

When does this occur? Air Temp or Engine temp is cold or warm? Certain RPM range, engine load, etc.
My engine has a nice mechanical whine when the engine is cold, but it disappears as the vehicle warms up. Only really hear it when the windows are down and RPM's over 3K.

Two questions to the OP:
1.) When you hear the gear whine can you make the sound change in pitch and/or volume by moving the gearshift around a little?
2.) Stock Honda MT fluid?

Thanks for the reponses.
Car temp is warm, RPM is around 4000-5000. It's a distinct whistle on top of the mechanical transmission/engine noise. I haven't moved the gearshift to see if that alters the sound. All service done by Honda.

If what you're hearing is akin to a mild supercharger whine, then I would suggest you also have the idler pulley replaced.
I just knocked this out on my '08 by myself... I replaced the serpentine belt, belt tensioner and idler pulley and the sound disappeared.
Another noise maker that pops up on this model is the thermostat. You can test this by placing pressure on the hose right after thermostat just past the hose clamp. Dealers are saying the sound is normal for the model and everything is functioning properly.
That being said, you should hear these sounds in any gear (increasingly more @ idle for the pulleys as they get worse) . If the noise is truly more pronounced in a certain gear, perhaps none of the aforementioned applies.
Let us know what you find out...
