Well it's been officially confirmed Marquez has been given the 2nd bike and joins Pedrosa in an all Spanish Honda works team - that will keep the major sponsor happy.

And Pedrosa's contract has been extended two years. Now he needs to repay Honda's faith and win them a world championship!

To be honest, I don't think Honda had a choice on Pedrosa... I'm still not sure he can beat Lorenzo with the MotoGP size bike, but I don't see anyone else that could get closer to it right now in the world. It's truly such a pity that Stoner is leaving the sport...
Let's hope Marquez delivers on his promises. So far from what I've seen in Moto2 he is pretty good, but will he be good enough for the world's top spot? Only time will tell.
PS: If you get a change to see previous races, I strongly recommend watching Silverstone last laps between Marquez and Redding, that was wild... Can't wait to see something similar with Lorenzo next year ...

At the point that Lorenzo declined HRC's offer, the Repsol Honda lineup was probably the most certain in the paddock. Can't imagine Pedrosa would've risked going to Yamaha and he sure as hell wasn't going to try the Ducati. Since HRC was determined to not let Rossi ride on the Repsol team, Pedrosa was far and away the best option to partner Marc Marquez.
If Honda gives Pedrosa a superior bike and he doesn't get hurt, he can win the title for sure. Had it not been for injuries I think Pedrosa would've won a title already.
But now he'll have potentially his strongest teammate yet in Marc Marquez. It remains to be seen if he can adapt to the 1000's but no one has torn through the two feeder GP classes the way Marquez has since Valentino. Don't think he'll be a title challenger in 2013 but I wouldn't be surprised to see him win a race or two.

Seriously? You think Marquez is better than Stoner? Watch many races in 2012?

Honda did the right thing betting on Marquez. He will be better than Pedrosa from what I've seen this year in moto2 (and is not a midget so he'll not have Dani's limitations on the big bikes).
He won't challenge for the title next year but he will win some races - if Pedrosa did so in his rookie season with the 990cc, then so can he.
With Stoner gone and Marquez learning the 1000, next year will be Pedrosa's best chance of winning the title, specially if Honda builds a very strong bike. I hope can make it.

Can't imagine anyone going faster than Stoner on a bike, to be honest. This guy is a speed demon! Probably the fastest rider ever.

NO. I actually just had a brain fart when writing that *whoops*.
I do think Marquez has the potential to dominate but I also think that it may be a long time before we see someone with a skill set like Stoner again.
