Is 1K units good or bad first month figure? I can't really tell, but it seems low to me.
Someone with good grasp on Honda's marketing and dealer knowledge care to give your input?

I think its pretty good. Whats the sales goal? 20K? It will be interesting to see the numbers three months from now.

You wouldn't get a very accurate count of sales during a vehicle's first month since dealers are ramping-up supply, marketing has just begun, etc. Give it a month and let's see.

Sales target is 40000. Starting its first full month at 1081 isn't great. The new RDX first full month sales (April) were 1984 which was an sharp increase from the previous month's 1st Gen RDX sales (1007). Of course since its 1st month the RDX has sold over 3000 in May & June.
We'll see???? still early

I think you have to wait a couple more months to really know what it's going to do. I'm not sure what the sales target is, but if it stays at 1100 a month I don't think it's good. Especially when the Verano sold 4000... not sure if that's a normal month for it or not

It's doing better than I thought it would. I'm not sure who's buying them. I see a lot around where I work, but there is a huge retirement community here. Price probably has something to do with it, I noticed an ad a couple of weeks ago for $19,999 for one. That was about $3500 off. I think GM had big fleet sales this month also though. I'm not sure if 4000 is higher than normal or that's the norm.

The thing with the RDX is that we don't know how many of those were 2012's, and how many were 2013's. The numbers that we see now are combined figures. I think for a brand new model like the ILX, we should wait several months then we will see how well it does. I personally think it will do better when ED powertrains are available.

The lease special came out mid-month so that helped things along. We sold most of the first batch and are down to 5 total (3 of which are Black/Ebony). If this is going to sell 3300 a month, we're going to need to receive more than 10-15 a month.

Don't forget that the GM employee base and retiree is an INSTANT customer base along with GM's marketing and Fleet programs........People have to pay attention to who is buying the cars, not the sales figures. With Honda, their sales numbers are ALWAYS to the CUSTOMER, their Fleet sales is less then 2%........
How many of those Verano's went to rental companies? Anything D2.2 is smoke and mirrors........

For now I am LOL'ing at the ILX sales, but it's still too early in the game to say exactly what will happen.

Verano is basically a heavy luxury Corolla. I'm not surprised that it sells well. Plenty of consumers just want something plush and comfy, and don't care if the underlying engineering is mediocre.

Really, automotive press has been favorable to both the Verano and Cruze.

The ILX is a decent compact sedan and lots of those sell from many manufacturers.
It's a huge market and everybody has cars in the same range with similar attributes to the ILX. That means lots of competition but I don't see it as a high-risk market segment. It is established, beyond doubt, that there are lots of consumers shopping for good compact sedans.
As such, the ILX, as far as I can tell, is a safe product and I can't imagine why Honda would fail to sell a decent number of them. There is no glaring issue with the car and despite protestations regarding price, it's priced similarly to a wide range of sedans yet stacks up reasonably well if what you're in the market for is a smaller premium compact. Not everybody likes or needs a large sedan in the range of an Accord, Camry, etc. but some of those who like a more compact package still are willing to spend more than what it costs to get into a lower-tier product like the Civic, Corolla, etc.
It's a huge market and it's odd that the view of some is that there is no market for a car like the ILX. With so many consumers looking for a compact yet premium package, seems to me Honda has a good chance to sell its share of ILXs. It's not as if this is a high-risk, ground-breaking product. By all accounts it's a nice take on the compact premium sedan. Nothing wrong with that.

Ok I have a question.... what category does a rental company put the Verano in? And if they put it in the same category as the Cruze, Sentra, Corolla exc why would they pay more for the verano? If it's put in a higher category I'm going to be ticked as a rental customer expecting a midsize luxury car.
Anyone know?
