Interesting thread. Some of my very best friends are gay and/or not a white Irish prick like me.

Every race/creed/lineage has ignorance built in, and you will never escape it. The only thing you can control is how you approach people, and really, if you are so close-minded as to not explore a person due to the above traits, you are truly the ignorant one.

I guess it was the guys words to me as he was leavinng, when he asked me what was going to happen to his car....."Don't sell it to someone who will abuse it......." I don't know if the guy driving the car was the guy we sold it to??? My dealer boarders the Poorest city in Ohio, East Cleveland, ironically, 100 years ago, it was J.D. Rockefeller Getaway Resort paradise. The maid street was lined with huge homes, it was a vacation spot for the rich, J.D. is berried at Lake view Cemetery in East Cleveland, one of the most beautiful cemetery's in America........But if He saw East Cleveland now, he would be sick.....

I gave my '70 Datsun 510 to one of my wife's cousins who needed a car. We had a Civic and an Integra then and had no place to park the 3rd car in our condo lot (back in '86).

That 510 had a 2 liter head, tuned intake manifold, headers, exhaust, Webber, Pirellis, etc, etc, etc... it was a wonderful car and I really had no choice because I had no room.

It had a dash without a single crack!

The moron lent it to his brother and he wrecked it in LA.

Sometimes you just have to move on. If your customer was so attached to the car he should have kept it.

The funny thing is, if I know someone who's prejudice, racist or what have you, I don't hate them in return. I simply kill them with kindness everytime I see them and make an effort to find common ground as everyone has something in common. I guess my goal is to change their perspective on how they view people that are different than themselves. BTW, my success rate is pretty high!

Aaahh.. prejudice... a two edged sword.

So my first name is Antonio. I'm from God's Own Country Which He Declared So sometime in 400BC around the First Punic War. We go way back with God, see?

I used to get speeding tickets with an alarming regularity.. I just could not do 55 and had a propensity for red Honda car or fast looking cars (vide Alfa Romeo, Scirocco...etc...).

So, I found myself one day in the Malibu Traffic Court to enter a plea. As it just so happened, I was wearing a business suit that day because I was going to see a client. They were calling names in batches and five of us sat up near the judge. The other four were sort of like dilapidated surfers.

The judge (an old white dude) called the first name.. an anglo name, he looked at all five of us and one of the surfers came forward. Then he called "Antonio" and looked at them only... so I counted to five and then -much to his surprise and embarrassment"- I answered "That would be me, your honor"...

Needless to say, he granted my motion to move the case downtown LA and the CHP cop never showed up... ;-)

...

Another time.. in Compton Traffic Court (kid you not, don't get a ticket on the 405 around Carson) the judge called my name.. "Antonio" and as I went forward -in casual business attire- the mexican translator came forward and started to talk to me in really bad spanglish-chicano.

Bugger him! Just 'cause I'm called Antonio don't mean I speak better Spanish and English that he did...

So... just for kicks... "Mercy beaucoup, mais je parle Anglais tres bien"... at which point I turned to the judge and told him that "I speak english just fine and I learnt my spanish in a fine school in Barcelona even if my french is a bit rusty nowadays"...

The courtroom was dumbfounded. The judge was quite amused. I got off.

Albanian?

Well.. that does it... we'll take the Blacks, Mexicans, Jews, Chinese even the Irish.. but Albanians.. that's pushing it a bit, huh?

:-)

I love that line from Blazing Saddles.. only a jew like Mel Brooks would get away with that:

"Well take the blacks, mexicans and the chinese.. but we don't want the Irish"....

I suggest we all mellow out.. the guys has gotten his just ream... if he pulls that stunt again, we then we go nuklear... but for the time being, just let it be.

Since we are on this topic about race,,,,,here is a good one;

Last year I was pulled over, NO FRONT PLATE, and I will NOT put one on my car.......I refuse to drill 2 holes in my front bumper......But I have a Euro plate on, but it covers up the air vent for the A/C unit, I don't want rocks busting that up.....There is still enough air that gets through tho....

And people, I get pulled over A LOT......at least 3X a year for not speeding, all car design related items.........Tint, Plates, HID's......OK, a few rolling stops.......

I live in a VERY Black populated area, so I was pulled over by a black cop......He was humored by my Plate on the back, it reads "GRN NRGY".......So he said; "Sir, you don't have a plate on the front of your car, AND, you have the plate from another country on the front of your car........" I replied, "Officer, That plate is not a Euro plate, it is my initials and my date of birth......Yes. it looks like a Euro plate, but it is not, about me not having a front plate, I am aware of that sir, but I feel the law is not a just law, there are only 13 states in America that use front plates and none of the states surrounding Ohio have front plates, so we are not showing a real reason except that it is a law on the books that is out of date.....And, I don't want to drill a hole in my front bumper that cost $750 bucks" He said, "It's still THE LAW, and I have to enforce all the laws on the books......"....I said, "Officer, please don't take this the wrong way, I would say this in court in front of a judge, I mean no disrespect, BUT, somewhere in THIS COUNTRY, there is a law on some states books or there WAS not too long ago that it would be against the law for a Black man to walk down the street with a white woman, or even marry one for that matter, WOULD you enforce that law officer?.........He looked at me, looked around, in my car, as if there was a camera, like he was about to get punked...........He said, "REALLY".....I said, "YES", I bet we can find that law somewhere in the south........He said, "You know there Mr Greencars (that's what is on my rear bumper with my name and number) You stumped me, at first I thought you were some sort of smart ass, but I really don't see a reason to even write you a warning, have a great night".......I thanked him and told him to be safe, as I tell that to all officers of the law......

Now TOP THAT ONE................! I bet he went back to the station and looked at Ohio law of every city 1st, then the country.........LOL! I got that Black man and white woman from MSNBC about 2 or 3 years ago, they were talking about stupid and out dated laws still on the books or ones that have been removed in the past 4 years........and one of them was that and a few others were that woman couldn't wear a skirt shorter then her knees while in public, it was written into one of the New England states I think back in the mid 1800's, still on the books........There were a lot of others, some having to do with horses, trains.......Funny shit.......
