I sure hope (to Honda employees peeking in here...) the 2-door Fit (CRZ) really incorporates rear multilink suspension.

Not having rear multi-links could be another reason why CRZ is not as widely popular as the 2nd generation CRX that many Honda fans still rave about it to this day.

Oh, CRZ also needs a minor face job. Try to smoothen 2nd gen CRZ out the way Honda did to 1st gen CRX with the 2nd gen CRX.

Logically, it should, and I hope it goes in the CR-Z Type R. But we won't know for sure. Who knows they will surprise us by putting it in the next gen Fit platform fully or at least the higher end models?

But does it compromise magic seats? I've only seen one or two reviews, but they never seem to mention it.

2013 Honda Fit EV Test Drive
To ensure the Fit didn't lose any functionality with its large pack aboard, Honda replaced the rear beam axle suspension with a more compact, multilink design. The rear seats are mounted higher and reclined slightly, resulting in more rear seat legroom than the standard Fit (or even an Accord). But the drawback is an 8.6-cubic-foot reduction in cargo capacity behind that seat. Also, the seatback no longer folds flush with the floor, meaning the Fit's practical "magic seat" isn't part of the Fit EV package.

Oh, but isn't that more because of the battery being on the floor.

Anyway, Type Rs don't need magic seats lol

It could be, but a TTAC reviewer gestured towards the middle bottom of the car saying it was "underneath the floorpan". So... I'm thinking it wasn't the battery's placement (since the area he pointed out didn't seem like it would obstruct the suspension), but the fact it adds exceptional weight that called for the change to IRS.

But... that's just a guess.

Agreed though, that Honda needs to build on this. Magic seats are nice but performance focused models can do without. A Euro Civic Type-R really begs for IRS...

The CRZ and the Fit really do need the rear multi link to give them a more stable comfortable and better performing ride. I believe Honda first said the torsion bar was used instead of the multi link to allow the Magic Seats. I think its misdirection info at its best.

Lots of improvements to the basic Fit used on the EV, that I'd like to see added to the Fit Sport (suspension, better interior, LED brake lights). Three others I'd like to see: moonroof option, more hp, and rear disc brakes.

Actualy, I think it's the only reason, whatever cost they saved is probably a bonus. There's just so much space on my car (though the City doesn't have magic seats) that I can put things under the rear seats, and the trunk area can go so deep that trunk space is as big as the Accord's. So it's weird that the magic seat option isn't on my car, but I recall WongKN did mention something about some (weird) people complaining about them and so Honda didn't include it, but the Fit/Jazz retains it obviously.

If it came with the IRS from the beginning, I can see that the magic seats / deep huge trunk space will not happen or at least so effective.

The rear suspension is nice, being that my Fit is just a 2 seater, wonder what all will be needed to be changed on the chassis to accommodate it. Though really out on circuit I don't feel any real issue with the rear setup. What I am really interested in is the front aluminum sub-frame. I WANT THIS BADLY if it is indeed the same mounting points as the regular GE.

I think, IIRC, he mentioned that the rear seat is pushed rearwards for 1-2 inches, combined with the placement of electronics under the rear seat kill the magic seat and made IRS possible.

Wait what? Didn't notice that before.. now you made me interested. I'm wondering if it fits mine too now.

Speaking of subframe, reminds when I had my old Accord, I bent the subframe in accident and searched for a junk spare.. mine was actually pretty light, but the junk spare from an earlier Accord was VERY heavy, so I didn't use that and searched for another that's the same weight. Just something to share..

I'm wondering if all the new MMC Fits or maybe the RS or the hybrid RS from now one are using that aluminum one?

They are not, at least not yet. Still have the stamped steel one. Obviously this piece is costly compared to the current one, but I STILL WANT it, especially if direct bolt-in. Not sure how much lighter it will be, but the increase in rigidity is of more importance to me. The stock piece is not at all light. When at J's Racing they had one on hand with their additional welded-in bracing, not a whole lot actually to increase weight really and it was quite heavy.

I hope they eventually make one.

I think it's not probably going to fit because the EV Fit doesn't have an engine and all the mount points and stuff are different for the electric motor.

Probably aluminum can be made to about the same stiffness but the real advatage is lightweight.

Anyone who's driven a Fit Sport knows the rear torsion beam suspension is its achilles heal which becomes exaggerated at highway speed when you hit bumps. Just fix it already, Honda. You have the multi-links available. But instead, they're just going to sit on this model until 2014 unfortunately. What a shame.
