We already know that the ILX will get the Earth Dreams powertrains as soon as they are available.
The ILX (Earth Dreams upgraded) will probably sell on these points:
+ Slightly better fuel economy than Accord. An ILX will probably weigh 200-250 lbs. less than an equivalent Accord. It's frontal cross section is also smaller than that of an Accord.
+ Smaller. This may seem counter-intuitive, but a smaller vehicle can make sense for people who live in more urban environments. It's easier to find parking or fit into driveways that were built before mid-size sedans grew into the near full-size cars they are today.
+ Style. Subjective, but some people will prefer the sleek, almost coupe-like profile of the ILX to the more traditional Accord layout.
What I think Acura really needs to do is suspension work for the 2.4L ILX. Most reviewers of the 2.4L felt the tuning was too soft, and that the car tended to roll far too much when pushed into corners. If the ILX is meant to be a spiritual successor to the 1G TSX, Acura needs to make it more nimble and more tolerant of hard driving.
My gut feeling is that the TSX and TL are going to be merged into the TLX, based on the 9G Accord platform. The problem with the TSX/TL duo is that they are far too close in size. Cabin space and trunk space are very close.

Everyone but you knows the TSX is cancelled. Next... the Integra (ILX - post Integra) has always gone up against the Accord in pricing. Do your research.

You'd be surprised how few people jump back and forth between a Honda and Acura dealer as they shop for a new car. They are more likely to be looking at Toyota or Nissan (vs. Honda) and Lexus or Infinity for Acura.

People keep asking this question at every redesign and people keep buying Acuras. It is not a real issue.
People said "Why buy a Legend/TL when you can get an Accord EX V6 for less?" three generations ago.
Different styling, luxury brand prestige, better warranty, better quality interior materials, better stereos, more sound deadening, some exclusive features and options etc..

I am not buying that. Unless the TSX continues a coupe so as to take advantage of the brand equity. But that leads to a good question. With ILX on the low side and TL on the higher side, whats the reason for buying a TSX.

TSX buyers are unique and like a made in japan car and have a different snob appeal and mentality. Most TSX buyers wouldn't be seen in a Civic I mean ILX. Even though they drove Civic's growing up.
Anyways, I hope they keep it. Why do you care? More options the better. I want an option for a European Accord Rebadge. Do you mind?
Don't tread on my euro accord option.

That's a safe bet. There are 10 times as many Accord dealers as there are ILX dealers. Not only that, the Accord dealers tend to be more aggressive in their sales approach. Acura dealers are trained to have a more reserved approach to selling in the luxury market.

Big - (minus) is type of gas ILX uses. Premium vs. Regular. Over the years of ownership it adds up...

Once a buyer decides they want the 2.4, the floodgates open:
Auto option.
Better tuned suspension.
Built in Japan (tell the owners of TLs with cracked dashboards that it doesn't matter where their Acura was built).
Euro Accord héritage / unique châssis (U.S.)
Mirror-mounted turn signals.
They've cut the Nav option on the MT TSX, but I still think the TSX is a very attractive package overall once the 2.0L ILX is passed over.

Well put. Though an ILX coupe/convertible could help justify its existence, as was once planned... No coupe body style to overlap, and if it had a long hood like the sedan, and not so thrust forward like the civic, would be an attractive entry luxury coupe. powered by earth dreams, of course.

As a former TSX owner, I am not sure what to think of the ILX. I really wish that the car would have been packaged with the 2.3 Turbo or even the 2.0 NA engine from the last gen Si. Either of these motors would have been a nice way to differentiate the ILX from the Si or even the TSX. The only problem with the 2.0 NA engine is that it is not a good pairing for the automatic drivers who are shopping this car against the Infinity, Lexus and BMW. The 2.3 turbo on the other hand could have been offered with manual or auto and would have offered a step in hp above the Si.
Better yet, this car could have been built using the RDX unibody....simply lowered, kept the AWD option and been converted to a FWD option for southern states looking for a lower price point. This car with the 2.3 turbo would have been a home run. Offering it with AWD would have allowed Acura to run head to head with the BMW 3 series, which is the real target in this class.
Using the Civic as the base line for the ILX really does nothing for Acura. Talking with our local dealer, they cannot move these cars off the lot. The dealer said that customers are put off by the lack of power and overall performance of the ILX. Customers drive it and then drive the TSX and if they buy an Acura, it almost always is the TSX that ends up leaving the lot. To have customers putting money on the TSX (which is old gen) vs. the ILX (new gen) tells me that Acura did not have a clear vision of what type of customer would buy the ILX. Someone should be fired at Acura. Not to be mean but, this car misses on so many different fronts that the people responsible should be held accountable.

When Mazda debuted the Millenia in 1995 or so the 929 was already in existence. Mazda stated over and over the 929 wasn't going anywhere.
The next year the 929 was canceled and the Millenia carried on.
