^I found pushing the red S T A R T button pretty anti-climactic. Was it to conjure up the S2000 or, if only for just a moment, impart the notion that I was actually driving a sports car?
The novelty wore of pretty quick. While the button itself does not illuminate, I don't recall if it had an outer ring that lit up - though we signed out the cars before sunrise.

The Ford Focus can be customized to a fairly significant degree, and the Subaru Impreza actually has logical "packages" that make sense.

No matter what they coulda, shoulda done, people would be complaining here. IMO they should stop adding packages and go back to the 'fully loaded' at 'one price' model. This way the only complaint could be that someone wanting a 'stripper' model is paying for something he doesn't want. (moonroofs are a current example of this way of doing things)
FWIW, our 6MT was the first to sell, most of our first batch is gone (~10 cars) including our only hybrid. We just received another 6 cars so I think there is about 8 on hand now. Unfortunately, of the 8 ILXs, six are Black w/Ebony. Not much color selection now.

Completely agree with this. The loaded with Nav, not loaded with NAV strategy was simple and easy to use and for consumers to understand and really made Acura show their value.
Its really hard to see the point of designing and building the car in America to "save on costs" and its not a value at all. The TSX built in Japan is the far better proposition.
Ten years ago for the price of the ILX you got a 225hp TL with HIDs, leather and was much larger. For 2012 you get 150hp, no HIDs, cloth but OMG bluetooth and finally push button start.

I wouldn’t call the ILX a steal myself, but your statement is a bit off. First, a base model 2002 TL checked in right at 29k. The base ILX checks in right at 26K. Second, you must consider inflation. But if you want to ignore that, you can get a ILX Premium for just over 29K.
The ILX is lacking in some areas compared to the old TL but I wouldn’t point out the size as a negative. In fact, I thought that was one of the main objectives of the ILX… to offer a little luxury for those who prefer a smaller vehicle. The ILX Premium does carry a few features that the base TL didn’t offer other than Bluetooth and push button start you mention. To name a few:
Dual zone climate control
iMID- which has several features in itself
USB
XM radio
Rear view cam
One touch blinkers
Curtain Airbags
Quick Vent window feature
Tire Pressure Monitors
17” wheels (IIRC the TL had 16s on base)
Projectors
There may be more but these are some that caught my attention. Depending on your driving style, you will even save in fuel compared to the old TL.

I keep thinking that if the modern Start button was moved from the dash to the floor we'd have a 1950 Studebaker. I still don't get the point of having a key of any kind and yet you still push a button. Considering the move to start/stop tech in cars today the "start when you shift from Park" idea is a good one.
I saw a 2.4/MT in the gray color at my local dealer last week and then this morning a fellow in a similar gray A4 passed me on the highway. Now I see the direction Honda wanted to take with the ILX. Whether they succeeded is a matter of opinion.

haha, thats funny, but you're right they probably didnt know how much a 6MT will cost.
I think the car will look 1000X better if it had larger wheels. I know that this affects comfort and MPG, but the wheels look to plain and IMHO makes it look more like Civic class vehicle than an entry luxury car.

I didn't watch the whole video, but it seems like these people are more or less average consumers and probably not as discerning as the ToV membership.
To the people in the video, an ILX may really be that good.
As for the BMW comment, that may not be unfounded. The journalist from TFLcar.com said something similar in his review video on YouTube -- that the ILX felt buttoned down like a BMW. Obviously the ILX has an FF setup and not an FR setup, so the balance and handling characteristics will be different for the person who really knows how to take advantage of FR, but the ILX was never aimed at this market to begin with. In any case, the sales numbers over the next few months will show whether Acura was right, or whether ToV will have the last laugh.

I'll have to watch the whole thing to catch the footage of the hybrid. I like the ILX for the most part, but the hybrid trim is a complete joke.
I'm not opposed to an ILX hybrid, but the ILX is a premium Acura product, and needed much better than a Hybrid CIvic IMA shoehorned into the engine bay... that powertrain doesn't say "Advance" to me. It says "stagnate" and "lazy". Acura, do it right, or don't do it at all.

Its ironic that Honda doesn't want to "target" the largest group of buyers in the segment considering that BMW is #1 by quite a margin, and the C-class, GS, IS, and CTS all do quite well with a traditional setup.
I keep hearing "it wasn't intended for this group" and yet "this group" comprises the largest % of buyers. Not saying that most people want FR, but they certainly have proven a liking for taut teutonic handling, relatively lively chassis, and an abundance of power... It's a shame that Acura keeps chasing markets that apparently don't exist, because we all know they could drop a nuke into any segment they wanted if they had the balls to do it. Instead, we waste billions on flops like the ZDX, the ILX and likely the new RLX.

Acura is so far off base with this car's marketing and demographics.

As with many other articles I've read, it talks about how Gen Y is not into cars. Along with the crippling cost of education and low return of education (i.e. no f'in jobs), they not only don't car about cars, they are pushing off car purchases, house purchases and getting married because they're paying off student loans.
My first couple of cars were pre-owned. I needed basic reliable transportation until I got a decent job that allowed me to pay loans and rent and food first. Once I was able to afford a new car, I certainly wasn't looking to purchase a luxury brand.
Acura missed the boat with the ILX. Since it seems only an older audience might be be able to afford this car, why not tie it into the RSX and Integra? That right there would have instant cache. Give it the sporty up market performance and luxury it deserves instead of a watered down offering that its target audience isn't even going to look at.
Had the 2.4L 6MT been available with the Tech package it would have been on my short list (despite the glaring omission of an LSD). If the next gen 6 doesn't have a 6MT, I would have gone to the Acura show room. But I'm spoiled now and want all the goodies my 6 has... keyless entry, HIDs, auto dimming inside and outside mirrors, better stereo, NAVI, ....
I have a feeling I'll be driving my 89 Prelude for the next 30 years....

Gotta take inflation into account, especially if you are talking about a 10-year old car.
At 2% annual inflation rate, a $29k TL in 2002 is equivalent to over $35k in today's dollars.
Conversely, a $29k ILX Premium today is the same as a $23k vehicle back in 2002. Huge difference my friend.

Saw my first ILX on the street. Amber brownstone is a really nice color, similar to the CRVs Urban Titanium which I also like. Overall its design is very attractive. Some have mentioned the size comparison to the TSX, and I agree the TSX is quite obviously bigger but not that much. IMO the ILX will appeal more to women, the lines are far less angular than the TSX and the sightlines for the driver should be exceptional. Overall I would give the exterior design to the ILX.
Now here's the downside, its been available for 2 months and the first ILX I see was a service loaner vehicle. Tell me things aren't that so bad already so they are selling them internally like they did the ZDX? I really hope not.

You should know that cars don't 'become' service loaners for dealers. Cars destined to be loaners are ordered that way (indicated by a special code on the order sheet). In fact, changing the status of a car destined to be a loaner isn't done easily (if at all) and visa versa.
FWIW, we've sold most of our first two batches, we've only got two base, one premium and two techs left. [shrugs] It's not selling as fast as the RDX, but there are a half dozen on our waiting list for certain color/trim combos.

About 2 years ago there was a thread about a sudden rush of ZDX sales and a rumor that they were internal dealer sales as dealers were forced to buy them and put them into service as loaner cars. The topic recently resurfaced as someone mentioned how many low mileage certified used ZDX were available.
Glad to hear they are selling fine on there own. If you don't mind a question, what's the take rate for the 2.4 6-speed?

LOL, we still have a 2010 ZDX and I'd imagine if they could have made it into a loaner (easily) they would have. As for 2.4, we've sold both we received immediately. I never had a chance to drive it at all. Fortunately we have two coming later this month and three next month. Maybe I'll get a test drive soon. We've also sold both of the hybrids we received (both Techs) and we've got seven coming in the next two batches.
