For now. This is my first non-Honda vehicle in 21 years of driving. This is also the first time I have ever stepped foot on a Scion lot.
I ordered this today, and it will be here in 4-6 weeks...possibly 8 worst case.
Not mine, but this is the color - Ultramarine.

Awesome move! There's a purity or purpose there which I think is very admirable.
And those who might wish you ill-will would do themselves a great disservice as gentlemen enthusiasts...

Congrats, great choice and from what I have read, a great ride.
If I ever need an S2000 replacement, this is where I would go.

Congratulations, DCR. Looks like you may be the first TOVer to take the Toyobaru plunge. If they'd been available last fall, I just might have picked one over the '11 Si. Definitely over the '12 Si. That's a really nice looking dark electric blue; it reminds me of Electron Blue Pearl.
I've never set foot on a Scion lot/section of a Toyota lot, either. I'd probably land on the Subaru lot first. In essence it's Subaru's car, anyway. The Scion does have a nicer front end though, I think. Also they price out a little better. I'm just really glad the 86s are here to please pent-up enthusiast demand for an affordable FR that is fun yet economical. Despite being affordable, the fun quotient is leading to comparisons with more expensive cars. An Australian publication drove it against the outgoing Porsche Cayman. Lots of buzz, lots of rave reviews. It's already doing exactly what Toyota needed it to do - generate buzz, chatter, get people talking and walking into their dealerships, elevate the brand(s) in people's minds.
Nothing like FR proportions in a tight little package, roughly S2000 size. Sharp looking car. I really want to drive one.
BTW, don't disappear. You'll want to stick around for all the upcoming amazing product P54 says is coming.

DCR, are you trading off the Civic Hybrid?
Did they play any games with addendums? I guess the FR-S's are selling for sticker price?

Congrats!! After all the videos you've posted here of the FR-S, I figured you may end up with one eventually. I'm sure it will be a joy to own.
Just curious, any particular reason you chose the FR-S over the BRZ?
BTW, you didn't have to post a pic, we already knew whatever you purchased would be blue ;-)

I am selling or trading the hybrid, but since I have some time, I will try and sell it private party.
Zero games on the price, I paid MSRP, and zero bullshit from the dealer. The guy was straight with me on everything, right up front, and had no arrogance about it. I expected some, since this car is generating buzz.
They had 2 FR-S so far, once sold off the truck, the second sold an hour off the truck.

The BRZ would have not arrived until December, which was a major reason.

Nice. I haven't had the courage to go to the Subaru dealer and look at these yet. I think I like it better than the Scion.

The Scion front clip is closer to the concepts they presented - so that gets my vote.

Oh, any options added?
Make sure you protect that front end and keep it forever! You'll be owning an instant classic.

The Subaru has some things I liked more, but availability is a huge problem with those.
Also, the vibe at the Toyota/Scion dealer was much much better than any dealership I have been in before. Very laid back, very clean and full of customers. The Subie dealership felt like a funeral home in comparison. I think I understand why the Corolla still sells.

No options...but I will be replacing that ugly stock radio quickly.
Also, I am looking at going the TRD route for some things.
Neal...it looks amazing in white...and I can get it in white, as they have blue and white allocated to this dealer.

DCR,
Nice looking car, and I usually don't like blue. Why does that vehicle look like the sprirtual successor to the original 240Z? It looks like someone lopped of the chrome and added some bulges? Looks very nice and doesn't scream "Look at all the curves!" like most of the recent Hyundais.

Superb choice DCR. Enjoy your new car.
I almost placed a deposit on a BRZ this past Monday. Not totally sold but very intrigued.
Unlike your experience with Toyota/Scion, the Subiens are very proud of this car and are acting as if it's a 370Z Twin Turbo... It's hilarious.

I wanted Asphalt (dark gray) mainly, but the blue was available "now" and is not a shade of blue that will attract attention. It is a little darker than I prefer, but I will live.
I love Japanese cars, because they look a distinct way...just something cool about the designs usually, and I can't really pinpoint what it is exactly. The 8th Gen Si really got my blood pumping when it was announced, and this FR-S did the same thing when I saw it in person. Pictures do not do this car justice...I was actually slack-jawed when I saw it in the flesh...it is a very well done car. I wasn't really looking to get one until I saw it...I just circled the car slowly about 5 times, and didn't even know I was smiling until my wife mentioned it.
The interior isn't terrible, but I would rank it below the 8th Gen Si I think. The seats are one fabric type and almost a felt texture, but they are there to do a job, and they do it...they lock you right in. The driving position is low and you feel like you are about to pilot a jet.

+1 on the white. I think you made an excellent choice. I never would have thought I would actually ever say this, but I like this car better than anything Honda has available right now. Congrats, and I don't think you will be sorry.

Awesome choice. That's the color I like as well. (Though to be fair they all look good.)
So did you test drive one, or are you just taking a leap of faith? I wish they would have drive events for these cars. I hate playing the dealership game.
You should start a thread then to keep us updated as your ownership progresses. I'd like to know more real world info... gas mileage, ride quality, quirks, etc.

By the way, how reliable are Subie's flat fours? Can they go 200-300K easy like Honda's? Not knockin' the purchase, just curious, because if I ever bought this car, I think I would keep it for years and years.

Yeah man, I don't think anyone is going to knock that choice. It's a solid car with a good purpose.
I broke ranks with HMC a few years ago with an old Miata, and I don't think I'll ever regret the choice.

Potenza - partial leap of faith...once it comes in, I can drive it and back out no questions asked. I talked to a guy who was taking delivery of his white one, and he owned two Scion tC before this FR-S, and he said the FR-S drives like it is sewn to the ground...just solid, tight and a blast. I am not really worried about not liking it...I drive a freaking hybrid right now.
I will start a thread on the ownership, and I will be honest just like I am about Honda.
Also, the Subaru engines have good reliability from everything I have seen.

ahhh finally you left. Maybe now we wont have to hear so much bitching about Honda? Maybe zero hopefully.
I woulda got the subby version imo...but great car and congrats.
Scion seems like a punk kids car and might attract some unwanted attention so be weary.

The only concern I had was the fairly insane compression ratio.
Subaru N/A flat fours have a nasty history of shitting head gaskets for no good reason, and they're a PITA to do basic maintenance on because of how they're positioned and whatnot.
That said, they're fairly solid otherwise from everything I know.
Because it's not AWD, you shouldn't have any problems...ironically enough, an ex-Subaru mechanic associate of mine said that the AWD system that Subaru uses causes the most headaches because they use chintzy differentials and lousy CV joints.

I do like that blue (kinda stealthy) but just to advance that Japanese aesthetic it's always white for me and the care and durability are a bit more forgiving as my eyes nothing everything. And white's highly visible to idiots. Awesome pic with full TRD.
Classic JDM and considering there's a little retro happening, well, it's pretty fitting. $220 premium for the white.
Radio? Just turn it off and drive!

You make it sound like Honda vehicles of certain types do not attract unwanted attention.
The TRD parts I would be after may only be cosmetic, like the spoiler, and maybe the seats because they look better than stock.
