Only a few days away, and not a single spyshot, teaser, tidbit of info, etc. What gives? What could possibly spoil the reveal to release some details a few days early?
Usual BS secrecy with Honda/Acura...so much for what they said in their recent Automotive News article:
"Acura also will be more aggressive with presale marketing before redesigned products reach market."
What a crock of BS

I quite like the fact that something new's not been teased to death before being unveiled. I'm not sure whether that's good marketing or not, but there you go.

Should be plenty of time for presale marketing from the time of NY show till it actually goes on sale.

You know, that's one of the things that was great about the NSX unveiling. Everyone knew it was the new NSX under that sheet, but no one had actually seen it or knew anything about it. Hence the honest surprise reactions when the cover was pulled.

We typically get a couple few days advance on the initial media pic(s) along with a press release. The release gets "staged" and the switch is flicked at the appropriate time.
Such is the case with the CrossTour and RL(X). ;-)

As usual we'll probably be underwhelmed with whatever they show, so I don't quite understand the secrecy.
If non-desperate automakers like Mercedes can release info/pics ahead of a reveal, what makes Honda/Acura think they're any better? Because their designs are highly sought after? Maybe back in their heyday...

I say this with GREAT disappointment for a lot of you. Although there is some dissatisfaction with some current designs, Honda and Acura are coming out of their shell......
I remember a time when auto dealers would fog the windows or cover them with brown paper and leave just a slit so a crowd would gather to try to pear through......I remember at 7 years old going to the Lincoln dealer with my dad in 1970, there were people gathered around trying to get a glimpse of the 71 Mark I. They had it shipped in under cover in a sealed truck my dad told me. We had a 67 Continental with the gangster doors at the time.......The day of the unveiling, people were dressed in suits, nice cloths and there was food and music....people were excited. SEE, back then, the new cars were not shown until the middle of September.....
GONE are the days of the imagination.......GONE are the days were we can appreciate the excitement of the craftsmanship from man......it's INSTANT satisfaction or disappointment.......RAPING the every turn or crease, every line or gap..........never understanding that it was someones dream that is before us.........Today a PACER is an amazing car to look at, a car that influenced Porsche to make the 928, the innovation of the passenger door being 4 inches longer then the drivers door for passengers to get in the rear of the car. The fact the car was over 5.5 feet wide on the inside. But we are SUCH a visual society that we can't see the innovation of the design......
SHAME on all of you for doubting what you haven't seen...............I say W a i t.......

They way Jeff described it a while back didn't exactly give me a lot of hope...same rear wheel haunch as ILX/ZDX...better proportions than current RL but still noticeable front overhang...5 bulb headlight treatment...nothing too crazy (good) but nothing special (bad)...
Either way, I look forward to seeing the reveal next week and hope it's at least better than current RL.

RL will most likely be a plain vanilla in terms of looks, which is fine, since none in this class are really sexy atleast in my opinion (ofcouse, looks are subjective). Its important to get the proportions right.
I'm more interested in the powertrain RL will get.
I'm guessing it will have AWD without 'SH' as standard and may have SHAWD exclusive to sport-hybrid (sh-SHAWD).
One of the reviews on RDX mentioned that Acura managed good enough handling and the lack of SHAWD showed up only in very sharp curves. I'm assuming RL will also get similar treatment, ie deploy regular/improved AWD, and significantly improve the ride and at the same time provide good enough handling. In short, it may go Mercedes route and try to strike a perfect balance between ride and handling, without trying to be too sporty like a BMW (ofcourse, the latest 5-series shows compromised and character-less steering).

Andrew, back in the day I remember they wanted to equip the Pacer with a Rotary engine, but since they couldn't get the emissions and fuel mileage under control they went with the old reliable inline six.

For handling, RWD might have been a good idea, with AWD as an available option.

Based on Jeff's comments (on what he has seen in Tokyo) its almost certain that the platform seen in spyshots back in 2008, which had longitudinal engine layout, is scrapped and the RL seen in Tokyo recently was an evolution of the current RL, which totally eliminates RWD from the picture. Ofcourse, there is no double RWD would be great, but unfortunately Acura will never deliver a RWD.
So, let's atleast hope for a good standard AWD.

Andrew, since the RL and TL have almost merged in terms of size and performance, it raises the question as to why there is an RL at all? (and RL sales bear this out)
So, if Acura can not bring in a fresh approach to this sedan, it seems destined to be a "has been" in the Tier 1 wannabe market. If they bring something new to the show, then that could be exciting!

I thought word was that the RL would stay the same size as the current car, though with an interior "rivaling the 7-series." Currently it's only 1.5 inches longer than the TL.
It sounds like the powertrain will be worlds apart, but size-wise I don't foresee a "grand stretch" until the TL shrinks considerably.

Well, every dude has his own idea of a "G R A N D S T R E T C H" but I wonder what your inside info could be telling, knowing that between the current RL and TL you've got:
RL wheelbase: 110.2"
TL wheelbase: 109.3"
RLX wheelbase: 000.0"
RL length: 195.7"
TL length: 194.0"
RLX length: 000.0"
RL width: 72.7"
TL width: 74.0"
RLX width: 00.0"
RL front track: 62.0"
TL front track: 63.2"
RLX front track: 00.0"
RL rear track: 62.4"
TL rear track: 63.8"
RLX rear track: 00.0"
I haven't heard of any X dimensions but feel free to take a guess as to what this "G R A N D S T R E T C H" could possibly mean...

I think there will always be an evolution of design, but in this case, Acura needs to do something special with the RL. Evolving the current design as mildly as something Honda did with the Civic would be a disaster. They are going to need a leap like Honda made from the 05 Civic to the 06 Civic.

HONDA AFVM: no offense, but didn't you hype up the current TL before it came out? While I value your insight into new products, I've learned to take your styling opinions with a grain of salt...as for Honda marketing, never really had a problem with it...in fact the cars use to sell themselves in Honda's heyday, marketing was just a gentle reminder to the public that they were clever, cool, and a good value...the Accord on the wall of an art museum? Classic Honda, beautifully subtle... remember the Integra on the hotwheels track? Nothing wrong with those spots IMHO...now if you mean marketing as in market placement and planning, then I'd agree with you 150%. Crosstour? ZDX? That's 'me too' marketing in its worst form...
