Makes sense to me. It's nearly identical (mechanically), but retuned extensively (ECU + CVT).

Not really. Tuning is vaporware. They can have something that is nearly identical mechanically, but is wholly different from a tuning/use perspective. Increased battery boost, different engine mapping, different gearing etc. All things that they frequently change anyway, without actually changing any of the expensive stuff.

Yeah, I pretty much understand that. I just thought the wording sounded funny. To me identical means swappable.
Despite what you want to say, retuning can also be mechanical.

Remember the uproar when the preliminary EPA numbers were released? 35 city and 38 highway if I recall. People here had a conniption because the Civic is 44/44. I think this information about 'retuning' may be the first indication why there is such a difference between the two cars.
