How fast is a base TL? My buddy and I were messing around and my accord walked away from a dead stop and a roll every time. I was thinking with 280hp 3.5L and the new 6AT they would be very close.

It had nothing to do with power...your Accord was simply trying to get away from it before someone saw you together.

OK.... nothing about the '12, but when we owned the 04 TL and leased the 05 Accord MT/V6...
Off the line, it was hard to get the Accord to hook up cleanly because the clutch take up sucked big time.
And once going, the Accord was indeed faster and quicker.
HOWEVER, given a single turn or a single bump on the road, you had to hold onto the Accord while the TL simply went through them with aplomb.
So. off the line, with care, the Accord was faster.
But when the road got twisty, the TL won.
Of course, I did put BS RE750s on the TL which were very sticky -but only lasted 15K miles...
And, our TL was the good looking one... not the Power Plenum'd look.. although it has been toned down lately.
Fast forward.. I think the Hondas have a softer suspension and less steering feel (except the CSI) than the Acuras.

I guess the 6mt makes that much of a difference. We both took off at idle so it wasn't like a drop clutch launch. I have also owned a 2008 tl. Handling felt better mostly due to body lean.

I guess I am now thinking why did Honda ditch the J30/6MT combo? If this combo was put in a car that was actually tuned to handle this would be the best of both worlds.

I tested a '12 TL a couple weeks ago - it ran 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. Traction-limited, 6AT 3.5.
The tl with the tech pkg weighs over 3700lbs, iirc, which makes it about 400 lbs heavier than the Accord V6MT. The real difference in output is probably less than 30hp, and the difference at the wheels is probably on the order of 10-15hp.

Quite true, I NEVER felt like that car lacked power. The J30 revv'ed to redline like crazy. We had just come off the RSX-S so I was really used to ripping up to redline and in the begining I'd run the J30 into the rev limiter quite often.
The suspension did need more roll control and a stiffer rebound.. And the steering was overboosted... the combination going through a corner was that if you hit a bump then you'd wiggle in your seat and twitched the steering wheel...
Really, instead of having gone to the J35 and VCM, AHM should have kept the J30 with real VTEC and introduced an AT6 into the line.
