Why, that's the most decent car I've ever seen I must say, it's so beautiful that I'm going totally mental and this makes the most happy day of my life, oh give me a break I must say....

They made an already good car even better. The style and elegance of the car is better then anything Acura has right now. If they make AWD an option that might be my next car. My freinds has a 2007 and it is super smooth, the NVH level are off the chart. Nice car

Since these photos have been leaked the ES has received lukewarm comments. The media and the public do not appear to be accepting the new spindle grill. I look at this as desperation on Lexus behalf, just like the plenum for Acura. The problem is Acura has nothing to lose; their sales will never be like BMW, Mercedes or Lexus because they do not have the cache in the public eyes. The problem with Lexus new direction is they will lose a lot of loyal fans; their average buyer is in their 60's and may be turned off. They will not win over BMW fans with the attempt to look sporty so they are fighting a losing battle. Of course they will release some more PR BS like we are not chasing sales, we care about quality and then later release we are not concerned with making the perfect vehicle, we want the perfect drivers car? I will give credit where credit is due, but this is a poor attempt to look different, big gapping grill and bland side profiles, I vote dud. Wait until you guys see the spy images of the revised RX, it has a face only a mother would love.

It looks similar to the GS due to the grille - I guess that's following Audi's design philosophy. the rear end uses lights similar to BMW's. Overall looks pretty good, nothing really to complain.
I'm not so sure about the interior - doesn't look very coherent to me.
What will matter is how the car drives. In China, a comfortable ride would be just fine. Probably needs to dial up the sporty quotient in the U.S.

I think it's gonna be another big hit, I really like the styling. Generally the ES isn't my type of car, but I can understand why people like them so much and I expect this new version to continue to excel at all the things it previously has.

The front end styling attempts to be different, but looks awkward from certain angles (all of them?). Acura tried this with the current TL's original plenum grille and they are still paying for that one!
The rest of the new ES looks pretty ho-hum generic.

The car appears to have grown in size. Not surprising since Lexus is targeting the Buick LaCrosse which has taken many of its customers ( probably Acura TL's too).
The styling seems evolutionary with a hint of LS in the rear.

I agree, the front end is Lexus' own Power Plenum, it is just really being different to be different, very much overwrought but without any real style. Unless the interior was badly photographed, it seems really dour and drab.

nice side profile, looks big and expensive, shame though about that after thought of a grill, protruding instead of lining up with the hood shutline.

Why does the author think it is a 'homerun'. I took one and thought it looks really horrible and bloated, and the interior is way worse.

I think Lexus is going for corporate grille. They did the same with GS and more importantly I see a common problem.
The front tries to be aggressive (some may like it, and some may not like it, that's a different issue). But the biggest problem I see here is that the rest of the vehicle design is not cohesive with the front.
It looks as if a new designer was brought in and asked to work only the front grill and existing designers were asked to work on the rest of the vehicle, and it looks like they never talked to each other.
Both GS and this ES suffers in this perspective that even Honda/Acura rarely sufferred from, ie coming up with one cohesive design instead of coming up with parts that does'nt seem to stick with each other.
In this aspect, TL is way too better. Both Pre and post MMC TL was always cohesive.
Coming to the grill, I think Acura power plenum is way better than new lexus grill, especially when power plenum is used with right proportions (read post-MMC MDX).
Lexus will have to seriously work on extending the boldness/aggressiveness to the rest of the vehicle and at the same time work on making the grill look better.
I doubt if conservative ES buyers will like this design.

It's as bad if not worse than Acura's original Plenum on the 09 TL
