got the latest BEST CAR japanese Mag (valid till 8/10) below is their latest info. on the 2nd. Gen honda fit coming out sometime October (making a World Debut at the Tokyo Motor show).
-Engine line up is: 1.3li i-Vtec cranking 100ps. looks familiar fm. the R18a series.... and no mention of the 1.5li though.
-as well as slight increase in Exterior dimensions. now i think it will match squarely with the Mazda 2. its going to be a good fight.
I'm not quite sure how Mag-X and BEST CAR magazines fare on information accuracy. The information is about the same (though Mag-X claims VTEC, not i-VTEC).
At first glance I thought BEST CAR's image as another FMC, until I took a closer look at the headlights, rear hatch, and door handles. But otherwise, it looks very close to the current model in my eyes (and dated). Personally I hope Mag-X is right in regards to the looks.
NAFan, you're welcome. actually there are so many different renditions of the 2nd. Gen Fit. either way is okay with me as i already took the plunge on the current one.

Actually, Mag-X was saying exactly the same thing, to put the i in front or not is more up to Honda, but for sure every new engine is now a "i-Vtec".
The real point is to know what's behind that "i", as it could be many different things. Mag-X was though pointing out that Fit's engine would do something similar to what the R18 engine does..., and I guess that BestCar is saying the same thing.

Yeah, I forgot to thank you myself, thanks Parakito !!
That said, I don't know how accurate is Mag-X, but apart from previous records (Mag-X is one of the most accurate Japanese rumor source for a while), their sketch has two advantages:
1) It doesn't look like anything else out there.
2) It still manages to capture many design cues that look reasonable for a Honda.
Best-Car render is very well executed but as far as I understand, they don't pretend this to be "a photo", but simple "how they think the next Fit will look like" (of course, based on some info they've had). There are some interesting points like the H placement in the back, and others that I think are wrong for sure (with the front whippers in such position pedestrian impact scores would be mediocre).
but I don't know, to me it looks as a strange blend of :
- recently released Mazda2
- current Fit
- MMC JDM Honda Edix (front grill).
PS: I'm missing one part of article so I'm not 100% sure about it, but although not clear mention on the left box, they seem to indicate in the article's text that there would be both a 1.3L and a 1.5L as well.
Thanks for putting up the page Parakito. My experience with the two mags are that Mag-X is the more accurate mag by far. I base this on a few cases, where my contacts inside of Honda Malaysia told me, for the City and the new Civic, that if I want to know how the next gen looks like (and that is before any spy photos came out), then I should go buy the latest issue of Mag-X.
There seems to be a big fuss about the new Fit/Jazz engine being i-VTEC or not i-VTEC. Do bear in mind that the i in i-VTEC is now used by Honda to mean 'intelligent'. By 'intelligent', it simply means an engine/ECU that no longer operates blindly based on rpm and MAP signal only but also in response to the environment - ECT, throttle position, how much load is in the engine, etc. Technically, there is no problem with fitting some version of the R-Series i-VTEC mechanism on the L-Series. So an i-VTEC L-Series, with say the R-Series mechanism will have some unique strengths of its own as compared to the L-Series. With the L-Series working so well with the Fit/Jazz, there really is no point in putting the RSeries into the Fit/Jazz because of the complexities involved.
Anyway, recently I was told some intriguing information regarding the new Fit/Jazz by an insider who has already seen the details. You can check it out in the relevant thread in the Fukui Mid-Year speech news thread.

Well, thanks to you Wong for repeating it again, because I did not read it back in Fukui's news thread... (got missed with so many posts). For those who lost it like me, here it is:
WongKN wrote: Oh yes, one more tidbit. But the guy simply REFUSED to tell me more details (ARGGGGGHHHHH). He says "the CVT gearbox will no longer be used. In its place will be a gearbox that will make every other competitor's gearbox in this market segment look like old technology !' BUT HE WON'T TELL ME WHAT HE MEANS. DSG ? It is not THAT fancy a technology and I don't think Honda will put something like a DSG on a base Jazz variant for e.g. Maybe the Autonov tranny that we did discuss about some time ago ? IF ONLY THE GUY WILL TELL ME MORE !!!!

That's a photoshop for sure (you can see it in many different points all around it: windshield without any single reflection, oversized headlights, etc.), but looks nice and follows the EuroCivic's style direction in the front... :)

In 26th August, the day many car magazines will be released in Japan, you can see the truth.
Actually, when I said "looks nice and follows the EuroCivic's style direction in the front... "I was giving some credit to the picture... since I believe past Mag-X rumours saying that the man in charge of the Fit styling was the same of the EuroCivic... (with every single past render of the future Civic I've said "that can't be" or "I would be very surprised if that's it")
I'll be waiting for it to look pretty close to that sketch...

Anyway, for anyone to see in TOV, this seems to be very close to the real thing:
If hnsxr is right, and I believe he is, expect bigger pictures and info to come out next week.
It actually looks quite convincing, and I don't doubt that the final product may look similar. However, the windows (also the small triangle at the vase of the A-pillar) seems deliberately blacked out, which is weird. Secondly, there is a funny line above the right headlamp (left side of the image). And its on 1st gen alloys.
However, big lights seem to be all the rage (Ford Verve), but the kink in the bonnet and the grille seem to come from the EUDM CTR, and the front fascia seems to be an enlarged (? vertically, at least) version of the one on the EUDM CTR and a version of the JDM Edix.
For reference.
Apart from this photo, the most convincing render I've seen is this one, from the magazine that gave us the CRV almost exactly as it is a couple months before release.

I think it's pretty clear that whoever released this photo wanted to make very certain that the location of the photograph was completely concealed. That's why the windows are all blacked out and the background has been removed. Otherwise it appears to be a legitimate photo.
mm. I liked it more when I only saw the first image posted. Not a big fan of the back, and the "rounder" styling.
"Fit RS" caught my eye. Is there any information provided on the Fit in the magazine? It'd be awesome if you could translate and post for us. Thanks!
