The Race
|
The Speed Challenge Touring Car race at Sebring resulted in a podium finish for the Real Time team. Pierre Kleinubing finished third, the same position he qualified in. He lost that position at the start to Seth Thomas, but once he regained it, he was never challenged again. Unfortunaly, he was unable to catch either Randy Pobst or Bill Auberlen. Bill Auberlen led from pole and immediately opened a significant gap on the rest of the field. For several laps Peter Cunningham, Charles Espenlaub and Jeff Altenburg were in a very tight race that ended with Espenlaub's disqualification. Cunningham was never able to pass Altenburg and finished fifth. Nick Esayian, Brandon Davis and Eric Curran were involved in close racing with James Clay and Chip Herr throughout the race. Esayian passed James Clay for seventh late in the race, improving one place from his starting position. Davis also improved one place to ninth. Eric Curran was not as fortunate, falling from seventh at the start to eleventh.
